Okinawa no tabemono!
None of us wanted to leave Okinawa, it was such an awesome place. It really had the best of both worlds, rich Japanese/Okinawan culture, with all the beauty of Hawaii. Although I'm telling you it's a good thing we only had a week there, because in that one week I gained like 10 pounds. When I travel I usually tell myself that I will only eat and drink things that are special to that particular place, and this was no exception. I ate goya (bittermelon), soki soba (pork soba), and drank awamori (okinawan sake), everyday, all day.
soba and juushii (fried rice in okinawan)
bittermelon ice cream
sugar cane ice cream (this is what i got...soooo good!)
bittermelon tea
okinawans are just as crazy about spam as hawaiians are...spam musubi in lawsons (japan's most popular convenience store) natsukashii!
shikuwasa alcohol (okinawan lime...again, sooo good!)
yomogi soki soba
bittermelon salad in the convenience store
taco rice, for some reason this is everywhere in okinawa, and they all eat it. it's basically meat, lettuce, cheese and tomatoes on rice.
goya champuru! by the end of the trip, i was actually quite fond of goya!
an 11 dollar mango
pineapple tsukemono
fresh raw tako sashimi that was caught the day before
tako gohan
more okinawan soba
okinawan hot sauce (awamori and chili peppers, which is basically vodka and chili pepper water) i bought you some dad! woo hoo!
okinawan sweet potato manapua
guava wine
our last meal we made our own taco rice! oiishii!
